Clean Up Your Car Month!

This month we are featuring microfiber cleaning products to help you clean up your car after a long winter collection of dirt and grime; and information on how to reduce your carbon footprint.

Ideas on how to reduce your carbon footprint:

Keeping your car well maintained helps to reduce the amount of gas it uses per mile, which in turns lowers your carbon footprint and saves you money.

• Keep your tires inflated to the correct air pressure for your vehicle
• Stay around 50 - 55 miles per hour
• Coast whenever possible
• Use your cruise control
• During long stops, turn off motor
• Do regular maintanence on your vehicle - keep the oil changed - which helps the engine run at optimum capacity
• Don't hot rod when driving, even driving patterns helps to save on gas
• Keep your vehicle in the garage or in a building during cold winter months, so warm up time is shorter
• Use air conditioner less
• Watch how many short trips you go on, constant stopping and starting is harder on your car than driving it a longer distance
• Combining shopping trips will save you on gas
• Empty out the trunks of your cars, for extra weight reduces fuel economy

Use alternative forms of travel to lower your footprint.

• Walk or bike to work, to the store, to the park or to visit a friend (Burn your energy instead of the earth's!)
• Buy a more efficient car, some older models actually get better mileage than some of new models, buy a hybrid
• Take a bus, the subway or train. Or like the Amish in our area, get yourself a horse and buggy!
• Car share, some places have organizations like Zip Car, where you can rent a car for an hour or more at a time. If you don't need a car very often, try out one of these.

Do a "waterless" car wash with just a bucket of hot water and microfiber towels! Microfiber has the capacity to pull off dirt, wax and grime with just water. Just keep rinsing the towel/cloth out in the bucket of hot water and wash away. Dry with another microfiber towel, and polish after waxing with a suede cloth to get a beautiful, glossy shine. This works good in areas with limited water resources or you are trying to conserve on your water usage. (If your cloth gets really filthy, you may have to wash in out in hot water and soap to get the cloth clean.)

Microfiber Hand/Sport Towels saves you on space and money! Microfiber has super absorbency capacity; a smaller towel will do the work of a larger cotton towel. So if you are looking for a smaller towel to take with you to the gym try a microfiber sport towel. Microfiber towels dry faster between uses, so you don't have to change them as often. Microfiber towels make great hand towels for your bathroom, kitchens, bars or anywhere you need a towel to wipe your hands on, or for trying off a small child or pet.
