microfiber strandMicrofiber is a man-made fiber consisting of tiny fibers that have been split into a million of finer fibers that are 100 times smaller than a human hair and 10 times finer than silk.

This fiber is a combination of polyester and polyamide (a nylon by-product). The polyester gives the material strength and durability, and the polyamide allows the fabric to be tremendously absorbent and quick drying.

The cloths because of their blend of polyester and polyamide retain a static charge, which makes them actually attract dust, dirt and pet hair.

size comparison of a microfiber strand to human hair

The splitting of the microfiber strand is needed in order for the microfiber to be effective for cleaning. The special splitting process produces an ultra-fine fiber with wedge shaped filaments and a core of nylon.

The wedge shape, the nylon core and the smaller size fiber are the key to their effectiveness. Through a unique weaving process, the fibers are woven together creating a cloth with tens of thousands of tiny storage compartments that lift dirt up, trap the waste and leave a clean streak-free surface.

Each of these tiny wedge shaped strings acts like a miniature razor breaking up surface dirt and easily absorbing it into the cloth, creating a cloth that cleans well with only water. Using water helps to emulsify the dirt and oil making it easier for the microfiber cloth to pick it up.

An ordinary cloth fiber tends to push the dirt and dust ahead of the cloth instead of picking it up. This is because cotton cloth fibers have very little surface area in which to collect the dirt and grime. Causing you to notice residue left behind on a surface that you have just cleaned or dusted. And that the cotton cloth lacks open interior spaces to hold the dirt it has picked up; causing cotton to take longer to dry, creating a more desirable place for bacteria to breed and grow. Microfiber dries quicker, helping to stop the growth of bacteria in your cloth.

cleaning ability of microfiber

Cleaning with microfiber products is fast, easy and environmentally friendly.

These unique features of the microfiber strands allow you to greatly reduce if not virtually eliminate the use of ordinary household cleaners.

Microfiber products not only will save you time (microfiber will expedite the cleaning process) and money (microfiber eliminates cleaners, paper towels and sponges), but they are safer for you, your family and pets and the environment.

The hypo-allergenic cloths are non-abrasive and safe to use on almost any surface. Plus microfiber is virtually lint free, and will even penetrate the dirt films to pick up and remove microscopic dust and allergens.

A study done at a university in Canada found that microfiber cleans as well or better than rags with disinfectant.
